The Truck Driving Academy teaches students and prepares them to take their Class A Commercial Drive Test at the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Our goal and mission is to educate students enough to pass their CDL Drive Test and be a safe driver on the road. Graduates could then be employed in a job classification under the United States Department of Labor’s as 53-3032.

ENROLLMENT AND PROGRAMS

We provide classroom and permit instruction in our office location and hands on training at our yards.  Our Truck Driver Training classroom curriculum is taught using a variety of methods, including video’s, lectures, presentations, practice tests, and discussions.  We have several Freightliner trucks for the behind the wheel portion. We use 28’ trailers for training.

Truck Driving Academy currently Is licensed to offer the following programs:

  • OTR Truck Driver – 160 clock hours
  • REFRESHER Truck Driver – 80 clock hours

The Over The Road (OTR) truck driver training class trains you in the safe operation of tractor-trailer combinations and prepares you for jobs as a truck driver. Upon completion of this 160-hour course, you will have the skills necessary to obtain employment in the trucking industry and a Certificate of Completion. This 4 week course begins each Monday. 40 hours-week is classroom study, and 120 hours behind the wheel training.

OTR TRUCK DRIVER – 160 HOUR CURRICULUM OUTLINE

Permit / Theory / Pre Trip (67 hrs.)

  • Theory Modules (required by the FMCSR) – 28′ Dry Van Trailer, 3 Axle Sleeper Power Units, 2 Axle Day Cab Power Units, Eaton Fuller 10 Speed Transmission, Progressive Shifting Techniques, and Hazardous Materials Certification (separate class offered).
  • Endorsement Study – Doubles/Triples, Tankers, Combination, General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and no automatic restrictions.
  • Walk around inspection form A B C coupling system, In-cab inspection, Air Brake tests per CA.

DMV specifications:
Field Instruction 93 hrs. Backing Skills (73 hrs.)

  • Straight line backing 100’ withing 12’ boundary.
  • Off set backing 100’ changing lanes.
  • Parallel parking both blind and sight sides of truck.
  • Alley docking
  • Entry level shifting in private lot range.
  • Entry level stopping distance.

Driving (20 hrs.)

  • Demonstrate basic to proficient shifting techniques, turns and cornering.
  • Demonstrate use of communication devices.
  • Practice and demonstrate speed control, space management, and visual search techniques.
  • Demonstrate all competencies while driving in traffic, freeway and city driving.

REFRESHER DRIVER – 80 HOUR CURRICULUM OUTLINE

Permit / Theory / Pre Trip (40 hrs.)

LICENSED BY THE BPPE

The Truck Driving Academy is a private institution, licensed and approved to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). Truck Driving Academy is in compliance with state standards as set forth in the CEC and 5, CCR. The license to operate indicates that Truck Driving Academy exceeds the minimum state standards set for the in Title 3, Division 10, Part 59, Chapter 8 of the Education Code.
